IYME 2008 Award winner
In June 2007 the British Council launched it’s first Young Creative Entrepreneurs award in Latvia – International Young Music Entrepreneur of the Year (IYMEY) – to champion and celebrate the importance of creative entrepreneurs working in the international music sector – showcasing individual achievement and potential.
The Award was won by Guna Zučika, BrainStorm management and Records
As a winner Guna undertook the UK music industry tour, which brought her along with other national winners to London and Manchester to meet leaders of the music sector. The tour comprised visits, meetings, seminars and live concerts and events and among others also visit to Glastonbury Festival, the largest greenfield music and performing arts festival in the world.
Guna’s involvement into music industry has been obvious – firstly she was a music fan and established first fan club for Latvian band „BrainStorm“ . Still at high school Guna started to work on musical broadcast on LNT TV in Latvia. In 1999 Guna joined record company „Microphone Records“/EMI licensee in The Baltic States on the position of International Exploitation manager. Her responsibility was to work on international level for „BrainStorm“ and she was one of the team behind first Latvian band – BrainStorm – breakthrough into European music markets in 2000. Highlights of her work includes getting „ BrainStorm“ support slot for REM in Europe and involving world-known photographer Anton Corbijn working on photos and artwork of „ BrainStorm’s“ releases. In 2004 Guna moved to „BrainStorm Management and Records“. She was away shortly as for 7 months she took a job at newly opened MTV Baltic working as Talent and Music manager. Soon Guna realized that her real calling is still working on music management side and went back to „BrainStorm“at her previous position. In 2007 Guna worked with Estonian band S.U.N. on setting their profile in Latvia and Lithuania. As free-lancer Guna has been doing promotion for international concerts in Latvia for concert agency BDG, Live Nation associate partners in Baltic States. In 2007 Guna went to London, Great Britain to study Music Business Management as her master degree at Westminster University that she graduated in 2008. Since 2009 Guna is back at „BrainStorm Management and Records“.
